This entire book is one of my favorites. I recommend anyone in Christian leadership to pick it up.
It should be noted that the way Nouwen is using the word "relevant" is NOT how we might think of it today. He seemed to be talking about relevant as "useful," as he talks about the temptation to turn rocks into bread. As the quote goes on to say, to "stand in the world with nothing to offer."
